Russian Association for Population and Development
The Russian Association for Population and Development (RAPD) is a voluntary non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 1991 and
supported by the Russian Government. Since 1993, RAPD has been an accredited
IPPF Member Association.
RAPD has branches in 44 territories of Russia. RAPD's mission is to promote the reproductive health of youth, women and men, to develop responsible attitude to their health, creating a family and the importance of safe childbirth.
RAPD supports the internationally accepted right of each individual and each family for free and responsible parenthood. RAPD aims to advance objectives related to each of IPPF's 5 strategic priorities: adolescents and young people, HIV and AIDS, access,
abortion and advocacy.
RAPD has created a broad information base in the field of family planning and reproductive health. RAPD has prepared and published information and education material for specialists, popular brochures and booklets for the general population, including young people. Since 1993 RAPD has published the Journal of Family Planning, highlighting scientific and practical achievements in the field of SRHR locally and abroad. RAPD took part in the implementation of the government's 'Federal Family Planning Programme', focusing on the mass media information and educational component.
RAPD implements
sexual and reproductive health and rights projects on regional and federal level together with its regional branches. RAPD elaborated the concept of sexuality education, guidelines supporting programme for those who work with adolescents.
This programme was highly praised by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and by leading scientists and practitioners earlier.
RAPD supports integration of educational programs for youth on improving Reproductive Health and promoting a healthy lifestyle into the national School Curriculum.
RAPD branches co-operate with local legislative and executive authorities; participate in the elaboration and implementation of regional programmes on family planning and reproductive health care, which include educational activities, training of staff and the promotion of high quality medical services and free contraception.
RAPD and its regional structures contributed to creation of a country-wide family planning movement, boosting interest of the general population towards SRHR and its importance of improving the quality of health. RAPD collaborates with many state structures, intergovernmental, international and public organizations in the field of joint implementation of projects in SRHR.
