Re: The Scholar and the Goddess

As the article indicates, muck from the 1,800's...
”. John Henry Newman

Re: The Scholar and the Goddess

Muck from the 1800s that's been taken as representing true and hidden wisdom that's been passed down from ancient times, which isn't true at all. A great deal of what modern pagans believe in, and practice, is based upon very scant historical evidence. A few try to make an effort to be as accurate as possible, but.. These sorts of people seem to be in the minority; most neopagans just dwell in a world of wishful thinking and make-believe.

Re: The Scholar and the Goddess

I have a particular dislike of Wicca and things which steal from authentic pagan mythology.
I don't like the theft of Celtic imagery or names. These people who call themselves "druids" and go clothed in white to Stonehenge or dance naked in woods, hugging trees and praying to the Earth Goddess have really no clue. We don't know for certain what Celtic religious practices were like, but we have some clues from Christian writings, pre-Christian classical writers, the pre-Christian oral traditions of the native pagan cultures themselves and archaelogy. I think it's fair to say that they were a rather unpleasant and bloody affair.
It is fashionable among the New Age movement to try to debunk things such as human sacrifice. But there is too much collaborating evidence from a variety of sources to sweep it under the carpet. Most New Age hippies would baulk even at the idea of the tarbhfheis ritual, far less the Triple-Fold ritual killing of humans.

If you are going to do something, at least do it properly. And then be prepared to serve a lengthy prison sentence afterwards

Abortion is a present day version of human sacrifice. We're back to the time when they offered babies to the god Moloc.

Something that the Romans accused the Carthaginians of and one of the reasons I've heard, albeit a very minor one, that Carthage was raised to the ground.

I read of more than one Feminist declaring that abortion is a modern day sacrament.
I think you can guess the nature of whatever religion considers infanticide a sacrament.

    Immoral and monstrous.

Yes. A sacrament is defined as an "outward sign of inward grace, instituted by Christ for our sanctification" ( Catechismus concil. Trident., n. 4, ex St. Augustine, "De Catechizandis rudibus" ).

Abortion is the willful and premeditated murder of the most innocent and defenseless members of our societies.
The destruction of one's own offspring, which goes against both the divine and the natural order..

To equate the latter with the former, to believe that we are sanctified by inflicting a truly horrific death upon our children, is a complete inversion of morality.
To have one's thought so utterly warped and perverted as to actually believe this (to be honest, I'm not entirely convinced that these people really believe what they are saying) is truly diabolical. If our nations were ever to become so crazed as to accept this mindset without question, not only will they not last long but they will not deserve to last either.

I can't refer to the Church's teachings, but I can refer to an example of natural law as contained in the surviving fragments of Musonius Rufus, who considered abortion to be an extremely cruel practice. As in keeping with his Stoic teachings, he regarded the begetting of children as one of the main goals, if not the main goal, of marriage. To him, abortion was a failure to see to the continuance of the human race.
