Tema: El bosón de Higgs

El nombre "partícula de Dios" procede del libro The God Particle: If the Universe is the Answer, What is the Question, del premio Nobel de física Leo M. Lederman, el cual dice que lo tituló así porque la partícula en cuestión es fundamental para entender la estructura de la material y al mismo tiempo tan esquiva y difícil de detecar como --según él-- es Dios. Aunque también dice jocosamente que por esa misma razón habría podido llamarse "Goddamn particle", pero que la editorial no habría querido publicar el libro con ese título. Para los que no estén muy versados en las sutilezas del vocabulario inglés y sus palabrotas, aclararé que este último título significaría algo así como "partícula puñetera" o "partícula jodida", pero literalmente "partícula maldita de Dios". Como es natural, a pesar de estar extendidísimo su uso, "Goddamn" está considerada una palabra irreverente, y con razón. La mayoría de las veces se usa tomando el nombre de Dios en vano.

It is a subatomic particle that supposedly explains the interaction of gravity and mass (if I remember what I've read of it). Evidence of the particle's existence was discovered rather than the particle itself.

This research helps to confirm the standard model of particle physics which, in turn, supports the standard model of cosmology that the universe had a beginning point (the "Big Bang"), the division of the four forces (gravity, electromagnetism, strong and weak atomic force), and other stuff it'd take a scientist to understand. Calling it "God Particle" is more for show than anything else.
