It certainly seems so. The spirit of Spain is very very different. We used to respect the enemy and have a chivalric attitude in war. Especially an army official would never speak like that to the troops. But this is somehow understandable, since Spain is a much older nation and the U.S. never went through a Middle Age, the most honorauble of Ages, in spite of what modern liberals say.
