Furor celticus.
The original incarnation of the KKK was meant to terrorize black and white Republicans in the south after the US Civil War; the founders were former Confederate soldiers and officers, usually of the southern wing of the Democratic Party. It was originally disbanded, by General Forrest I believe. There have been many incarnations of the group over the years; anti-hispanic sentiment wasn't an original component of the KKK when it was founded in the 1860s.
